Iron, tubular instrument, with four copper rings and inscription in copper, 'Swinford,' on one side and 'Charlestown,' on the other. Length, 24"

Security device used on train between Swinford and Charlestown. The exchange of the Kiltimagh key for the Swinford one, was a guarantee that the line was clear and enable the train to move on to the next station where the process was repeated.

Presented to Museum by Michael Kelly of Loughrea who worked for many years on the Railway.
