Dresser

Enniscoe, Castlehill, Ballina, County Mayo

A large dresser from the old kitchen at Enniscoe Museum. This one is unique in that it has the "Mayo feet".

The timber for it was sawn by the old method of pit sawing, and would have been made in the kitchen by the Estate carpenter.

The open dresser was a great showcase of all the kitchens of the past. Every Irish housewife prided herself on her display of delph.

This dresser came from the kitchen at Enniscoe House and dates from around 1850. It had to be taken to pieces to get it out and then rebuilt. It is now in the tearoom of the Heritage Centre.
