Where History Comes Alive

Visitors to the Museum are invited to experience the story of Irish country life between 1850 and 1950 through the innovative combination of artefacts and displays, archival video footage and interactive screens. The exhibition consists of a wide range of artefacts dealing with agriculture, fishing and hunting, clothing and textiles, furniture and fittings, trades and crafts, transport, calendar customs, leisure and religion.

A Museum ... yet not a Museum

Imagine handcrafted harvest knots and wickerwork, spinning wheels and boats, traditional clothing and artefacts, hand operated machinery our grandparents used, and picture original artefacts, a life size blacksmith's forge, actual video footage of traditions we are fast losing. Over four floors, the Museum treats visitors to a taste of how our ancestors lived their daily lives, in both difficult and joyful times. This is history truly come to life.
